John O’Kelly, Immediate Past Chair RCGP NI

I am delighted and honoured to nominate Paul Myres for the role of President of the Royal College of General Practitioners. I have known and worked with Paul for a number of years. He is a vastly experienced general practitioner with a knowledge of the issues affecting modern general practice.

In the present challenging environment for general practice Paul will be a tremendous advocate for the views of members: from AiTs, recently qualified GPs to those more experienced . From his roles in Wales he has an understanding of the the problems of urban, suburban and rural practice. He also has a knowledge of the College and its workings having been on UK Council as Chair of RCGP Wales and his work on the audit committee. He has experience with the College in the international arena.

I have no doubt he has the ability to hold the College to account so that it is acting in best interests of all members in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland. and the International community.

We need a President with knowledge, experience, dedication, stamina, understanding and professionalism to represent all the membership no matter where they reside or work and to stand up for them and general practice. Paul has all these attributes and I strongly endorse his candidacy.

John O’Kelly,
Immediate Past Chair RCGP Northern Ireland
General Practitioner Derry/ Londonderry
